Property Division

Property in New York and New Jersey is awarded according to the laws of equitable distribution. This means that homes, personal property and assets may be split equally and fairly, but not necessarily 50-50. It is important to also note that debts are divided in this same way, as not to overburden one party with the marital debt.

Spousal Support

Also referred to as alimony, spousal support is not awarded in every divorce. However, when it is awarded, many factors are considered, such as the age of the parties, the contribution of the parties to the finances of the marriage, the length of the marriage and any other financial obligations, such as child support. Child Custody and Child Support
